Descriptions of Courses

All Vaugel Sculpture Classes are offered by the week.  Students can enroll for one or more weeks.

A basic foundation in figure and portrait sculpture can best be attained in a continued 4 week course of study.
All classes are limited to 6 people maximum and are taught in English and French.

Sculpting the Portrait in Clay - THE VAUGEL SCULPTURE METHOD

The Vaugel Sculpture Method is a structured process for sculpting the Portrait in clay

Whether sculpting from a live model or from photographs, the Vaugel Sculpture Method changes the unknown into a comprehensible system of action.
The process is based on first finding and duplicating the structured geometric relationships of the boney landmarks of the skull.
From this a generic abstracted skull is created and then either a live model or photographs of a live model are used to change this generic skull into the skull of the subject.
At this point, using a system of triangulating the points of importance, the student is taught how to reference and explore the relationships necessary to complete a finished portrait using clay modeling techniques.

Schedule of Portrait Classes - 2020

Sculpting the Figure in Clay – The Vaugel Sculpture Method

The Vaugel Sculpture Method is a structured process for sculpting the Figure in clay.
Whether sculpting a Seated, Standing, Reclining or Moving Figure, the Vaugel Sculpture Method changes the unknown into a comprehensible system of action.
The process is based on the simplification of anatomy, making it accessible for students, whether beginner or advanced.
A system of proportions is used to create horizontal lines, while vertical and diagonal lines are found through the observation of corporal landmarks.
A grid is created through the triangulation of this inner structure of the figure, using the four main views of the pose. (front, 2 sides and back). The figure is then completed in the round using proven clay modeling techniques.
